Childcare Cleaning Services

Due to the hectic lifestyle in Singapore, busy parents often opt to send their young children to childcare centres, infant care centres, playgroups or pre-schools like nurseries and kindergartens, during the working day.

The management at these places have the heavy responsibility of ensuring the cleanliness of their classrooms, activity rooms and general environment is of the highest standard at all times. In a place full of lovely yet vulnerable kids, any airborne virus or bacteria will cause a massive outbreak.

Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD)

Though seasonal, the outbreak of Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD) in Singapore this year has raised concerns over the cleanliness and personal hygiene issues in schools, childcare centres and homes of the children.

Thus far, Singapore suffered one of the worst HFMD outbreaks in 2016. According to The Straits Times, for the first 21 weeks of 2016, the recorded cases has hit 18,241 cases, compared to the median number of 8,193 for the same period over the past five years.

The Spreading Of HFMD & Its Symptoms

So what is HFMD? It is a contagious viral infection that can be transmitted through direct contact with the saliva, blister fluid, faeces and nasal discharge of an infected person. Thus, those infected should be segregated from the crowd. Infected children should be kept at home until all the blisters have dried up.

An infected child may suffer from some of the following symptoms:
– Fever
– Sore throat
– Painful ulcers in the mouth, throat and tongue
– Rashes or blisters on the hands, feet, legs, buttocks
– Loss of appetite
(Please bring your children to the doctor if the above symptoms are found)

Children below five years old are more susceptible due to their underdeveloped immune systems. However, older children and even adults can be infected as well if personal hygiene is overlooked.

How To Ensure A Clean Environment In Childcare Centres?

Other than practising good personal hygiene such as washing hands frequently with soap, especially before food or after using the toilet, a clean hygienic surrounding is very important too.

In order to protect the children from HFMD and other viral diseases, a childcare centre is advised to carry out intensive cleaning and disinfection on general surfaces, communal toys, utensils, milk bottles, bedding, toilets, potty chair, dirty clothing and any communal facilities. Additionally, the childcare centre will need to handle and dispose of infectious waste or contaminated items properly.

Childcare workers are to ensure that toys or appliances that are contaminated by nasal or oral secretions are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before being used again. Also, clean surfaces which are often touched routinely, like in the kitchen or bathrooms.
